BogiDope posted an update a year ago
We just created a new BogiDope group to discuss the latest/greatest gouge for the Air Force Pilot Training Pipeline (class drops, gouge, trends, rumors, etc). We just posted an official memo that describes some of the issues with logjams in the training pipeline. Check it out!

One of the drawbacks of active duty is the lack of control. Luck and timing (along with individual performance, of course) play a huge part in what airplane you’ll fly.
According to this recent memo, active duty (not necessarily Guard/Reserve) fighter slots will be limited over the next year or two until the training pipeline logjam is cleared.

I would advise against waiting because I think you might be overvalueing work experience over youth. …

Consider:
1) You will not get picked up if you didn’t apply
2) Age is genearlly not an asset
3) You don’t know who’s going to apply to any particular board
4) Despite you best effort that first…

What are your biggest question’s about Army Aviation?
Is it true that the National Guard is willing to process vision waivers?
I was in the process for applying to the Army Reserve but, upon learning my vision (2.00 ish) would be out of regulation with the army’s 1.50 myopia requirement, I was told it was not waiverable and would need LASIK/PRK.
Flash forward 6 months, I’ve been talking with a…

Thanks for the background, that totally gives the insight as to why you’re kind of “locked in” for the two years and your perspective totally makes sense. I see nothing wrong with, while working, polishing yourself up to be the best applicant you can be. The test pilot aspiration is really cool! Something someone like me who was a bit of a bum…
