Will IPT replacing IFT change Guard/Reserve hiring?
I agree with SMAX’s perspective. The Air Force is no different than any other major civilian flying training operation (Part 121 Airlines being the biggest).
You want standardization across the community. I am sure that the IPT syllabus, as SMAX says, will continue to evolve and change. Some people will have more experience than others…

As a BogiDope coach, I often get asked, “how do I go about scheduling the AFOQT and TBAS?” That is a critical question, and unfortunately one that really does not have an approved/guaranteed solution. As is the case with so many other aspects of our lives, it seems like you (the applicant) have to find the right person in the right mood who…

It took it me about 5 years on and off, from contacting recruiters throughout different states, contacting ROTC detachments, and reaching out to education centers on different bases. I was able to take the AFOQT after persistently reaching out to a recruiter that was two states away from me. Scheduling the TBAS was much easier, I…
1@Randy_N thank you for the data. If folks have realistic expectations on the process to get the AFOQT scheduled, that will help plan a timeline as well as understand the persistence it takes to make the test happen. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
Anyone else willing to share their story about getting the AFOQT scheduled?1- View more comments

@kaitlin-palm If you’re around military aviation long enough, especially the training side of the house, you’ll find that one of the few constants is change. The Air Force is always looking at new ways to safely fill cockpits as quickly as possible. The IPT program is just another way to accomplish this objective, outsource some of the…

USAR (Reserve) Rotary Wing Disbanded
Cherub, on the fixed-wing side you are correct – they are still operational. However, any new accessions (non-USAR rotary aviators) require an exception to policy from the Commanding General of Army Reserve Aviation Command and are not likely to be approved. The plan is to man the Theater Fixed-Wing Battalions over-strength and transition as…
Less of a discussion and more informational… All rotary wing U.S. Army Reserve Units are being disbanded. Thus, for rotary wing Army Aviation, only guard and active duty are options. I am still waiting on a full confirmation regarding USAR fix wing units but as of now, I believe they are still operational.
